Retail therapy is the best kind of therapy, and better yet when you can do it ensconced in your fluffiest pyjamas with your duvet firmly wrapped around you, a glass of your favourite comfort beverage in one hand and the mouse in the other.
While you may occasionally get a weirdly fitting party dress, internet shopping is truly beyond convenience and you can browse so many more options without that familiar leg ache seasoned shoppers know all too well. Takealot is a giant in this arena internationally and has recently made a massive entrance onto the South African scene.
Founded in the 2002 as Take2, the site was later relaunched as Takealot in 2010 by Tiger Global Management and CEO Kim Reid. Takealot offers an extensive range of locally supplied and imported books, DVDs, music, games, electronics and toys with delivery to your doorstep.
In 2012, Takealot acquired a majority stake in delivery company Mr Delivery to launch its same-day delivery service in major cites. Reid commented late last week that both companies “work extremely” closely to ensure that customers get a great service.
This is really exciting news for us busy shopaholics and our short-attention-span society who need instant gratification on purchases while running 3 other jobs and a blog on the side.
Reid has said that electronics are one of the most popular purchases on the site at the moment and that although their current market is aimed at those with more disposable income they plan to “expand down” to target a wider audience. This obviously has it’s own challenges as delivery can be quite costly.
In the mean time, next time you want to spoil yourself have a browse through the online shopping sphere and give your hard-working feet a rest.
