Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren has been lambasted on social media for his decision to perform as the Inaugural concert this year – a symbol of hard-fought democracy and reflective of our diverse rainbow nation.
While Kurt says he was proud to represent his Afrikaans culture there, he has no desire to be associated with the extreme right-wing groups who destroyed him following the concert.
He said for someone to say they hoped his baby was born a stillborn was the most reprehensible thing anyone could say. His wife is currently pregnant.
“If I lost fans because of my performance at the inauguration on Saturday then I will accept it. People with so much hatred in their hearts are not the kinds of people I want to be associated with.”
Now, we are all fans of a little constructive criticism where it is deserved (although this doesn’t seem like that case at all) but to stoop to such a personal level of attack is abhorrent. Good on you Kurt, geluk met die baba en hou aan met die positive housing, Vat hom Laag.
