Oh dear, our new cabinet is already coming under some heavy fire and it hasn’t even been a week since they were all were sworn in.
This time the criticism is not on politics or policies per say, but rather on their worrying lack of tech-savvy.
If you don’t have a twitter account in today’s social-media saturated climate you are living in the stone age with our government.
Perhaps the announcement that the (former) Department of Communications, responsible for the broadcasting and telecoms sectors in South Africa, would be renamed to the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services tells us all we need to know?
Within an hour of the naming of the new cabinet @NhlanhlaNeneZA appeared on twitter and it took a week and some increasingly amusing and loony posts to finally get a response from “official” government.
Of course with the cover blown the fake minister stopped even pretending to be real and has gotten wackier by the day.
While the gov did release a tweet asking the imposters very politely to stop making fake accounts, they seem not to have been able to figure out that they could have just had these accounts removed as soon as they became aware of them.
These ministers need to rope in their kids and grand-kids for Twit(ter) lessons before they put their foot in anything else.
