Like Sly Stallone roping together his old compadres for another Expendables adventure, Jacob Zuma has revealed his new cabinet lineup, full of new and returning faces.
Most notably, Zuma’s released Pravin Gordhan from the key finance ministry and replaced him with his former deputy Nhlanhla Nene – see him in action in the video below.
He also, as expected, appointed ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa as the country’s deputy president.
Former National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele was welcomed back into the fold (see pic above) after being fired in 2012 following the debacle with a multi-billion rand lease deal. He has now been appointed Deputy Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister. Talk about a second-chance!
Former mining minister Susan Shabangu, who faced scrutiny for her handling of the platinum mine strikes, was replaced by Ngoako Ramatlhodi, a former deputy minister in the prison service.
Shabangu hasn’t been kicked out of the squad altogether, as she will now handle a new department and act as the Minister of Women in the Presidency.
Zuma also split the communication ministry in two, with the new division being the ministry of telecommunications and postal services, which will be headed by former state security minister Siyabonga Cwele. The traditional ministry of communications will be run by Faith Muthambi.
