In an attempt to increase road-safety (and to keep rude gestures and passive-aggressive comments to a minimum in traffic), a clever couple has come up with a revolutionary idea to implement in the road itself.
Solar Roadways are the ingenious brain-child of Scott and Julie Brusaw. The idea will essentially make the roads solar-powered interactive panels, which can adapt to weather conditions, traffic, drunk people stumbling into the street, and basically warn drivers of any obstacles or dangers ahead.
These intelligent solar roadways currently comes in hexagons and is constructed out of several layers of technology which is shielded by a thick layer of tempered glass. This intelligent solar roadway’s tempered glass can support weights up to 250,000 pounds. What makes these hexagons the technology of he future is not only because they will make our roads more interactive and safe but also because of their ability to melt ice and snow and could potentially cut greenhouse gasses with as much as 75%.
The couple took to crowd-sourcing platform IndieGoGo with the goal of getting $1 million in funding for tools and manufacturing facilities, and have already exceeded that, so expect to see more this idea in practice in the not-too-distant future.
