Yay for equality!
We love it when something that legitimately promotes equality becomes a real thing…
In France, a group known as ‘Ce que soulève la jupe’ (or ‘Lift the Skirt’) urged boys across 27 of the Northwest City’s schools to wear skirts instead of trousers to school. Their aim was to create awareness for the issue of sexism that has, apparently, reared its ugly head yet again around the various educational institutions within Nantes, France.
The issue they are trying to bring to light is as follows:
Why on EARTH should it be okay for women to wear a traditionally ‘male’ piece of apparel known as ‘trousers’, and not okay for men to wear skirts?
Seriously though – just look at the hipster movement which has swept itself the world-over. It’s total androgyny in the purest sense.
Chicks are now wearing what can only be described as dudes clothing ( have you been to Assembly or &Union lately?). Most of them are donning what looks like their Grandpop’s old cardi and a pair of old brogue’s extracted from a deceased uncle’s attic collection of vintage attire.
But fashion trends aside, these young men are brining up a relevant point – if anyone is to treat their skirt-wearing choice with a discriminatory remark or objection – then that too is a form of sexism… right?
Think about it. It’s not a bad point they are raising.
If a choice doesn’t hurt anyone, discriminate against anyone or amount to a projection of hate-speech towards any group, gender, religion, culture, creed or race – then why the hell not?
Interesting.
