This is amazing.
At 24 so many of us don’t know whether we are Arthur or Martha and we are just finding our feet in the mess they call Adulthood. Not this guy, he has been on the fast track to political success for quite some time already and his focus is paying off.
Democratic Alliance Youth chairperson Yusuf Cassim is set to become the youngest member of Parliament to be sworn in on Wednesday.
“Cassim will be 24 years, four months and 16 days old tomorrow [Wednesday], making him the youngest MP in South African history,” the party said in a statement.
“Cassim formed part of the DA’s Young Leaders class of 2011. He became the SRC president at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2012, and the DA Youth federal chairperson in 2013.”
Cassim will overtake the record set by his fellow DA member Geordin Hill-Lewis, who at the age of 24 years and seven months became the youngest MP to be sworn in during 2011.’ [News24]
We need more young, fresh and innovative minds running our country, don’t you think? I mean sure, experience is valuable but after (in some cases what seems like hundreds of) years of being in a job you tend to get comfortable and perhaps a little jaded.
Also, accumulating all the knowledge and wisdom that comes with experience is useless if you just take it to your grave with you. Our societies are in constant flux and our leadership should definitely be able to adapt and reflect this, not so?
