We may not always love his politics, but you have to give it to the man: Juju knows how to get noticed.
At the swearing-in of the new parliament this morning, EFF members donned the outfits representative of “the worker” and were there to be seen and heard with a very specific message.
Male EFF MPs, dressed in red overalls and hard hats, sang and danced in front of the steps of the National Assembly where they were expected to be sworn-in later in the morning – while most women EFF MPs chose to dress as cleaners in red dust coats with aprons, and brightly coloured headscarves. […] Explaining the symbolism, EFF MP-in-waiting Floyd Shivambu said: “The working class and poor now know they’ve got representatives in Parliament. There is no other organisation which associates itself with the struggles of the poor.” [iol]
I’m a tad unsure there, Floyd. I thought el presidente, Zuma was the “man of the people”? Does he know you are claiming his throne of humility? And “dressed as poor people” nogal? Heaven forbid the average minimum-wage-earner can actually relate to their parliamentary reps.
One thing is for sure, if the EFF keep this up there will be no more napping in parliament and more of us may even tune in to live broadcasts – even if it is just to watch Julius say ridiculous things and cause uproar.
