Four years and endless to-ing and fro-ing later, Shrien Dewani is on South African soil and by the looks of things, may very soon be facing trial for the murder of his bride, Anni, while on their honeymoon here in 2010.
Upon arrival in SA Mr Dewani looked blank and emotionless, yet less than a month later he seems jovial – not like the kind of person who is unfit to stand trial on the grounds of depression and PTSD. Of course, it would be silly to say that there is an identifiable “kind of person” who suffers from mental illnesses, but there are unquestionable physiological signs of depression along with the emotional and psychological ones. Any psychologist/psychiatrist worth their salt will most likely agree laughing and joking with companions is not among those commonly listed.
One quandry this raises in our minds is how this man could have been treated for so long in his British homeland and remain ill, when after less than a month of treatment here, he seems well enough to stand trial.
Either way, it seems that the date for the trial will soon be set and we may yet find out what went down and why he would possibly plot the murder of his beloved. For more info click here and watch this space once the trial gets under-way.
