This is a pretty big let-down.
You’re not a true fan of Led Zeppelin if you did not, at some point, secretly admit to yourself that the riff from Stairway To Heaven sounds a heck of a lot like ‘Taurus’ from the band Spirit.
Come on, you know the band that used to play gigs with Led Zep back in the day?
Just nod and say yes.
Many of us, loyal Zeppelin fans, have been in denial about this for years, however the truth always comes out in the wash.
And here it is:
Francis Alexander Malofiy is a lawyer who is representing a trust for writer of ‘Taurus‘ Randy California, the deceased frontman from Spirit. Led Zeppelin is preparing to release deluxe versions of their original albums, so California’s trust is slamming them with a copyright infringement suit as well as an injunction that would block Zeppelin from re-releasing their old classics.
Wow. Sounds messy and embarrassing.
Apparently, all California’s people want out of this is a written credit on ‘Stairway To Heaven’ – which is really modest considering that the song coined in $562 million over the years…
In case you’re wondering, Zeppelin have made no comment on the situation and are not admitting nor denying plagiarism at this point.
Ugh, plagiarism. Such a dirty word. Shame on you Led Zep.
