We absolutely have to take a bow before National Geographic. Their latest ad campaign is clever beyond what could ever be expected or even imagined for this revered periodical.
The campaign showcases wild animals taking ‘selfies’ of themselves through mirrors in different scenarios. Here’s the cool bit – the ‘selfie’ campaign has nothing to do with animals, but is actually about the art of photography. It’s a commentary on modern technology being so widely available to the masses, particularly through our phone cameras – that there is no longer an excuse for taking bad photos. Also, how smart is this? The text on each advert reads, ‘ There Are Lots Of Terrible Animal Pictures Out There’. So obviously the reader is directed to enjoy the work of National Geographic photographers who quite literally own the title of ‘best’ wildlife photographers on the Planet.
Of course, who better than to make this jibe at humanity’s new obsession with our bedroom mirrors and our next Instagram post than National Geographic. They are royalty in the land of photography, after all. See for yourself:
