Everyone is, by now, well aware of the incredible potential for publicity Twitter possesses. As the social networking platform continues to grow rapidly in South Africa, Twitter are seizing the opportunity to capitalise on the SME advertising demands they feel they are perfectly suited for. The concept was first launched in the US a year ago and has spread quickly since.
Twitter said research shows 72 per cent of users of the microblogging site are more likely to make a purchase from an SME after they follow or interact with them on Twitter, with 30 per cent more likely to recommend a business they follow on the site.
The self-serve platform allows businesses to promote their Tweets and accounts, paying per engagement and obtaining the same functionality as larger brands, while also providing analytics to track performance. [humanipo]
This is an ideal marketing strategy for SME’s who may not have as big a budget as larger corporations and who have a more specific or niche target audience. Not only is it a great tool for small businesses who want to have a big impact, it is a great way for Twitter to attract new income from a more diverse range of companies and expand their world domination further.
Well done, Twitter, great play!
