Braai, Boerie and Beer: they just go together. And with so many grapes in the Cape alone we have to make wine or the grapes would forfeit being of any use to us bar eating and juice-making. And eating is cheating, right? Naturally, once the wine is made we have to drink it otherwise it would also go to waste and we hate wasting. Seems this makes us one of the drunkest countries in the world, according to the World Health Organisation. Now I don’t know many people who don’t enjoy a good glass of vino or an ice-cold beer at the end of a long day but maybe we should slow it down a little.
“More needs to be done to protect populations from the negative health consequences of alcohol consumption,” Dr. Oleg Chestnov, WHO Assistant Director-General for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, said in an announcement that accompanied the report. “The report clearly shows that there is no room for complacency when it comes to reducing the harmful use of alcohol.” [Mashable]
