Yet another reason to love being Cape-Townian! Not only do we have the most beautiful scenery to enjoy daily , and the view from our bedroom windows is the sea and the mountains and all this only a hop, skip and a jump from our front door, BUT now we are surrounded by the latest treatment for breast cancer.
The university [of Stellenbosch] said in a statement on Monday that the researcher, Dr Koch Visser, studied the relationship between Cyclopia, which is used to make honey bush tea, and breast cancer cells. “We found that Cyclopia extracts prevent the oestrogen-induced growth of breast cancer cells by targeting and inhibiting oestrogen receptor subtypes that promote the growth of these cells,” Visser said.
Better yet, they have reported that unlike other treatments for breast cancer this does not increase the risk of uterine cancer. This is definitely a great reason to save the fynbos without feeling like too much of a tree-hugger – although tree’s need hugs too. Get up close and personal with the fynbos in style at the beautiful Grootbos Lodge only 2 hours outside of of Cape Town. Possibly the best excuse for a luxurious get-away ever!
In the mean time, keep doing those breast exams –
