We all want that beach-body! Beyond beauty, there is some pretty convincing research that bulging bellies are linked to some nasty and pretty serious health conditions. Of course, we want you all to be happy healthy humans so having a flat tummy is definitely NOT just about looking hot. Here are 5 things to watch out for that may be holding you back from your ultimate sexiness ( and long-term health):
1. You’re doing the wrong workout: working up a sweat on the treadmill is great exercise for your heart but weight-training helps burn fat as it builds muscle. For the most effective workout you need both.
2. You’re eating too many processed foods: considering the fact that there is processed sugar in pretty much EVERYTHING this is almost inevitable. Fresh fruit and veg, rooibos and green teas and whole grains are jam packed with antioxidants which soothe the inflammation caused by processed nasties and leave you feeling fresh and energised.
3. You’re eating the wrong fats: If you are trying out a high protein diet, be aware that these foods contain saturated (bad) fats. Balance this out by making sure you have a healthy dose of good fats from stuff like avo’s, sunflower seeds and fish. Too much of any fat is not a good idea.
4. You’re stressed: Honestly, who isn’t? Stress has become such a “normal” part of our lives we don’t really notice it often, but your body does, ALL the time! Schedule vital de-stressing time. It is a great excuse – not that anyone ever really needs one – for a stroll on the beach or an extra surf.
5. You’re skimping on sleep – Yes, life is a party and you can sleep when you’re dead but if you feel like you’re struggling to lose those kg’s on your journey to a six-pack aim for seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
