How often do you hear someone say something outlandish and justify it with the right to freedom of expression? The new Secrecy Bill in South Africa does make this somewhat challenging for media houses and journalists who have views that don’t 100% support the ruling party. For all of you who agree with the likes of Julian Assange and Edward Snowden (whatever their government may label them) value you freedoms to express views on the things that really matter and refuse to be silenced, there is now a dedicated space just for you!
Uspiked is the latest equivalent to Wiki leaks for those of us who need a platform to share our frank and enlightened opinions in writing. Obviously, there is a fairly scrutinous screening process to ensure that what you are saying is in fact true. Fiction, while valuable to the creatives among us, must find a different home.
This platform will allow all writers to publish their work and, better yet, to be paid what they are worth for the work published. In addition to publication on the actual site, media houses will be offered the articles for a limited time period to publish or broadcast under their own banner. This will, however, not stop the stories from being published for the general public on Uspiked.
The best news of all, is that this is not exclusively for the writers among us; it is a forum for ALL of us to become more informed critical thinkers about our country and our society. Knowledge is power we say and more power to the people!
