Oh dear Mbalula, what have you said now? It looks like an apology by the ANC to yet ANOTHER African country will need to be made after this guy went and said something rather embarrassing. Again.
On Tuesday, Fikile Mbalula who is our country’s Minister of Sport and Recreation, sat at a meeting with some journalists to discuss pressing sporting matters. The question arose as to the concern regarding some of our national sporting teams remaining exclusively white, especially Olympic teams. Mbalula’s reply? He basically announced that to reach quotas in sport they couldn’t just change things around and then went on to compare the decision to include black people into certain sporting codes on a national level with the choice Kenya made to send their people to swim in the Olympic games and ‘drown in the pool’. Oy Vey.
So the perception here is that Mbalela doesn’t actually believe black are necessarily good enough for specific sports and that Kenya made a bit of a bungle in their choice to allow Kenyans to try out for the swim team. Wow. This comes after a similar statement by Zuma about our country’s E-tolling system which led him to announce that our highways were not just some ” national road in Malawi”. And thoroughly apologise for that one he did.
Let’s wait and see if Mbalela will be made to eat his words on this one though. It might come to that, after all he did accuse Kenyans of being bad swimmers.
