If you haven’t read it yet, now might be the time to do so. Jade Mitchell’s blog received some serious attention last week when she posted a scathing observation about Capetonians and their unwarranted sense of superiority towards themselves and their city. Titled “Go F***ck Yourself Cape Town” , the piece details an array of ‘reasons’ as to why Capetonians are in fact INFERIOR to the average Johannesburger and why Johannesburg as a whole is a particularly better city in which to dwell.
In Fact Jade goes as far as saying that not only are Capetonians immensely cliquey (amongst a full 9-point list which can be read HERE), but when the Zombie Apocalypse eventually arrives, it is Capetonians who will be oh-so-fucked due to the lack of electric-wire fencing, 5-storey high walls and security guards secured around the perimeters of their homes. Quite. Indeed this is a terrifying notion and does certainly make for some serious time contemplating as to how prepared Capetonians truly are for aforementioned Zombie Apocalypse. This is a legitimate concern and us Cape Town folk should all be quietly preparing for Armageddon by barricading our homes, stock-piling food and ammunition and digging out our underground bunkers. I mean really, have we no sense of preparation?
In light of the startling observations that Jade made about the general attitude of the Capetonian population towards Johannesburg, her blog post went viral. And boy did she manage to get a reaction. The best reaction came in form of a response written by Jeremy Coutts of blog ‘My Sunday Morning Piss’. Jeremy basically owned her. In every way imaginable. Hilariously so. Or so we think. But then again, we are Capetonians. Why not see for yourself, then tell us who won this epic battle of ‘whose city is the best?’ . It certainly seems to be a timeless argument that does not have an end in sight. But hey, you be the judge of that.
