On Tuesday, more than a 100 girls were kidnapped from a secondary school in Nigeria’s Borno state. No one has since come forward to claim responsibility for the kidnappings but the militant group Boko Haram is suspected to be behind the events.
Witnesses claim that armed men in trucks and on motorcycles arrived at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok and overpowered the the schools guards, killing a soldier and police officer. More than a 100 girls were then taken away in trucks by the “rampaging gunmen.” The militants then torched the surrounding town.
Local authorities have said some of the girls were able to escape their captors but they don’t know how many have managed to walk back to Chibok.
