The National Arts Festival in partnership with the city of Cape Town, announced that a new performing arts festival will be launched in Cape Town and surrounding areas later this year. Cape Town will get its very own Fringe Festival.
Fringe Festivals were started in Edinburgh just after WWII, when independent artists felt excluded by the main performing arts festivals of the time. Nowadays Fringe festivals give independent and creative artists a means to display and perform their art in some of the biggest cities in the world.
The Cape Town Fringe festival will take place from 25 September until 5 October https://www.aldaorg.net/buy-lipitor/ 2014 and is inspired by the popular Fringe Festivals in New York, Amsterdam, Adelaide and Edinburgh. This new performing arts festival will feature about 40 productions in and around the city centre, at about 16 different venues.
South Africa only has one other Fringe Festival, that takes place in Grahamstown each year. Organizers have said that the Cape Town one will be structured slightly differently to the Grahamstown one, being modelled rather on the ones in New York, Prague and Amsterdam.
