You might have grown accustomed to Oscar Pistorius’s courtroom drama and his behaviour. Some may think that Pistorius’s tears and vomiting may indicate remorse. But experts warn people not to let Pistorius’ anguish fool them.

Pistorius’ puking and crying during the trial have become frequent occurrences. Experts on domestic abuse cases say domestic abusers tend to show powerful, yet deceptive, emotions in order to manipulate their victims, and abuse victims tend to take shelter in small spaces when they feel threatened.

If they were robots, nobody would date them or be with them. They’re able to display a lot of human emotion, but research shows they’re always in control,” says Cindy Southworth from the National Network to End Domestic Violence.

Southworth suggests that Oscar’s theatrics are similar to other abusers when held accountable, describing it as “compelling and calculated remorse.”
