Grade-I listed Caverswall Castle, near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, is on the market for R53 million, which is the equivalent price of a a double parking garage on Nettleton Road. Bloody bargain, chaps.

The castle was bought by property tycoon Robin MacDonald eight years ago for £1.7 million, and has now been fully renovated. The castle covers 20,000 square feet and has its own moat and a dungeon. It features 18 bedrooms, nine reception rooms, 13 bathrooms, a library with a Wedgwood ceiling and a billiard room. The castle was built on the 13th century, on the site of an Anglo-Saxon manor. it was bought by Matthew Cradock, a mayor of Stafford and wealthy merchant, in 1615 and rebuilt as a Jacobean mansion. During the Civil War the Castle was garrisoned by parliamentary forces. The famous Wedgwood family owned the house during the 1880s: it was they who added the decorative plaster ceiling in the library. The property has also been used as a nunnery.
