Here is the new £1 coin for numismatists, a big word for coin collectors, to drool over. The new 12-sided design, similar to the three pence piece currently in circulation, is said to be the hardest in the world to fake.
The UK treasury, revealed the coin’s new design in effort to combat counterfeits in circulation. They estimate that 3% of the current £1 coins in circulation are fake – that’s over 45 million coins.
The new coin is set to be introduced only in 2017. As with all British coins the Queen’s effigy will be on the head side, but the tail side’s design will be open to a public design competition.
