Easter is fast approaching. While some of us only see it as a couple of days off from work, Christians will be all talk around the water cooler about the man that allegedly rose from the dead 2,000 years ago. Here are five little known facts about Jesus.

1. Jesus came from a nowhere little town.

Archaeologist estimate the town of Nazareth only had a population of between 200 to 400 people. Nazareth was literally a backwater town which people of the time made fun of – kinda like Benoni. So when man stated “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” he was dissing Jesus.

2. Jesus probably didn’t know everything.

Being divine didn’t make him all-knowing. Yes, they say he predicted a couple of things including his death, but scriptures also note he “progressed” in wisdom, i.e. he had to learn stuff.

3. Jesus was tough.

From ages 12 to 30 he worked as a carpenter, but contemporary scholars think that the actual translation of the term for carpenter implied “day labourer.” Thus he most likely spent as much time lugging around rocks and building houses as he did making wooden objects.

4. Jesus needed “me time.”

It’s frequently stated in scriptures he had to “withdraw” from the crowds for alone time, much like celebrities these days needing some respite from all the paparazzi.

5. Jesus didn’t want to die.

Christians believe he died for their sins, but like any normal person, Jesus didn’t want to die, which could make his sacrifice greater or lesser, depending on your point of view. According to the bible, he prayed to God to, “Remove this cup,” i.e. don’t kill me.
