Dutch architects from a company called Dus are building a canal house in Amsterdam using a giant 3D-printer. No – they haven’t had one too many space cakes. Using a massive 3D-printer made from a converted shipping container, they are trying to change the way we construct homes in the future.
Creating large segments of the house at a time, they will fit the pieces together in a manner similar to assembling Lego. The goal of their demonstration is not only to print a standing house out of plastic, but also to create techniques for building future homes using 3D-printers.
The 3D-printer they designed in cooperation with Ultimaker is called the Kamermaker. It takes about a week for a single slab of the building to be printed. One of the first pieces weighed 180 kg.
