In a very interesting twist this morning, state prosecutor in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, Gerrie Nel, asked witness Colonel Vermeulen (demonstrating where the cricket bat hit the door) to crouch down on his knees when doing so.
This occurred after Vermeulen confirmed that it would be unnatural for a able-bodied person (with legs) to hit the door with a cricket bat at the angle that made the mark in question.
Here is a pic from the live coverage (courtesy Oscar Pistorius channel).
Gerrie Nel might be insinuating that Pistorius was on his stumps (sans prosthetics) when he bashed down the toilet door. This would contradict Pistorius’ statement, which claims he put on his prosthesis after shooting through the door and before using the cricket bat.
According to newsau:
At his bail hearing last year, Pistorius said in a statement read by lawyer Barry Roux that, after he realised he had shot Steenkamp, he pulled on his prosthetic legs and tried to kick down the toilet door before finally giving up and bashing it in with a cricket bat.
This is still being discussed – you can listen live here.
