Africa is plagued with internet connectivity issues. This brick shaped device, aptly named BRCK, hopes to get more Africans online and more importantly, stay online. The device started out as a project to solve an African problem, but it may end up being used by hipsters who frequent coffee shop hotspots.
Created and tested in Nairobi, BRCK works as a backup generator for the internet. If one connection fails, it connects to a different source, using multiple SIM cards. BRCK is thus a rugged mobile modem/router which is built to last the often harsh African environment. Its long battery life allows it to be taken into remote areas and survive power cuts.
