I manageed to saunter on down to the CTIC for the 2014 edition of the Design Indaba, and let me tell you this, my friends: I liked what I saw. I liked it very much. I for one was rather smitten with MIN’s COLOUR ONE installation, and the “Dance Evolution” MINI stand. I absolutely can’t tell you if I twerked, or not.
Anyway, so you really must get the background on the amazing COLOUR ONE concept piece before I waffle on:
For the first time on African soil, the COLOUR ONE for MINI by renowned Dutch design duo, Scholten & Baijings, was showcased.
Aaaand I’m back.
You may be familiar with the current trend in culinary circles of deconstructing anything from a sandwich to melktert, yes? This instalment was similar, but with one big difference – they used a car.
Isn’t that lovely? It brings the MINI back to its original lines, and really gives the purists (clinks glass) a chance to admire the simple beauty of the shape for what it is.
The stand for the new MINI Hatch was quite another affair. Dance battles taking place right in front of me, people. Their interactive installation allowed DJs and fans to create original mash ups. Again, I absolutely will not confirm or deny any reports of twerking. Stop asking me.
