Finally, the kryptonite of the smartphone is being tackled. Yes, dihydrogen monoxide will no longer be the bane of smartphones around the world. With this nanocoating, evil water molecules don’t stand a chance.
Debuted at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the nanocoating developed by P2i was able to protect a submerged Galaxy smartphone. Most waterproofing technologies currently hold for about 30 mins, but this is child’s play for P2i. They placed the smartphone in a fish bowl, with the timer running, for more than two hours.
The technology works by simply coating the smartphone with a hydrophobic polymer, which is basically a fancy plastic. P2i have said that a smartphone will feature this coating some time this year.
