What started as a comment on a Reddit AMA has escalated into a drum showdown between Will Ferrell and Chad Smith – oh, and it’s for charity.

A lot of people think that it’s me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith,” posted Will Ferrell on his Reddit AMA.

This simple comment ended up with Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith laying down a challenge to his doppelganger Ferrell. Ferrell accepted on the terms they raise $300,000 for the non-profit Cancer for College. Guess what? The internet denizens reached the target. They world will now be privy to the glorious drum-off between Will Ferrell and Chad Smith.

The exact details of the event are still to be finalized but Ferrell said: “We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call.”
