We all know that the photos published in women’s fashion magazines – correction, all magazines – have spent a dubiously large amount of time under the Photoshop brush. The star of the hit show ‘Girls’ recently did a photo shoot for Vogue. In the show Lena Dunham’s character is known for her homely but real appearance. So when the blog Jezebel attacked Dunham on her photo’s as “probably not terribly real,” the star voiced her opinions.
… I know some people have been very angry about the cover and that confuses me a little. I don’t understand why, Photoshop or no, having a woman who is different than the typical Vogue cover girl, could be a bad thing,” said Dunham.
The photos of Dunham have been altered but she argues that it was minimal. Most of the editing was for lighting and filters, which is done by all magazines.
The whole argument regarding Dunham’s edited pictures is that it is purely a publicity stunt by Jezebel. They offered a $10,000 reward for the untouched photos. Yes, there were some editing done, but as Dunham pointed out, shouldn’t the main focus be that Vogue has for once had a real woman on its cover?
