For nine months the detectives investigating the Oscar Pistorius murder case have been struggling with Pistorius’s iPhone. It is said that the country’s top police IT experts have had no success at gaining access to Pistorius’s iCloud account.
Apart from finding out what music the blade runner listens to, the investigators hope to access messages sent between him and Reeva Steenkamp. One of Pistorius’s attorneys, Brian Webber has said that the correct password for Oscar’s iTunes Account was supplied to investigators. The state said that the password was incorrect. The prosecuting team have said that obtaining the password from Apple is “a logistical and bureaucratic nightmare because US privacy laws are a lot tougher than those in South Africa.”
With time running out, the state may have to forgo knowing the contents of the iPhone. The trial is set to start on the 3 March.
