We don’t know if we would go as far as comparing a rock legend with a pixelated bird on a smartphone, but columnist Leigh Alexander from the Daily Beast tends to think so. It’s not like Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen took a shotgun to everyone’s phone after he decided to end it all.
Trying to link the vague similarities of the rise and fall of Grunge music to the success of a game that consists of keeping a bird alive on your phone is just demeaning to music in general. And using Nirvana ripping off the Pixies as an analogy to Flappy Bird’s retro throwback of stylistic pipes resembling those in Super Mario Bros, is a bit of a stretch.
