A group calling themselves the “Michael Jackson Community” brought a case to a French court claiming they had suffered “emotional damage” from the pop star’s death. They weren’t dismissed with a ceremonious boo-hoo and a box of tissues, but ended up with the judge agreeing they did indeed suffer trauma from Michael Jackson’s death.
One euro was awarded to each of the 5 plaintiffs, who had sufficient evidence to support their case. The damages paid to them were more symbolic than anything else. The courts ruling most likely wont stand up to an appeal.
There were in total 34 plaintiffs but only five members were judged to have endured real trauma.
