Welcome to the mad world of Shia Labeouf. For the next couple of days people in LA will have the opportunity to go to a very strange art installation.
The doors with the word #IAMSORRY written on them leads you to an empty room with a woman standing behind a small plywood table. On the table you will find a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, a pink ukulele, a Transformers toy, a whip, Brut cologne, a visual novel by Daniel Clowes and a bowl of printed out tweets about LaBeouf.
The surreal experience continues. Select a single object from the table and take it with you to the next room. There LaBeouf awaits you, sitting at a small table, suited up and donning a paper bag over his head (again). Wet patches on the bag around his eyes get bigger. He’s crying.
This was the experience of some of the media that have attended the installation. The cause of the show goes back to LaBeouf committing plagiarism back in 2012. He verbatim copied dialogue and story line in his film ‘Howard Cantour.com’ from a visual novel by Daniel Clowes. LaBeouf was then accused of plagiarising his apology. A spree of plagiarism by LaBeouf then followed pawning it off as performance art, which this installation piece is but the latest.
Viewers of his #IAMSORRY piece have left with mixed feelings, not knowing if they should feel manipulated or sorry for the actor. Check out the source links below – the Daily Beast one is tres interesting.
