Since November SAA have been charging customers flying from OR Tambo between R50 and R100 for a service that didn’t even exist yet. What is that service? Wrapping luggage in plastic. The service in question was only introduced at the end of last month.
Despite internal legal advice saying not to, SAA has decided to increase their fares for a service that customers may not want or need. Since the end of last month SAA has made it mandatory for all luggage to be wrapped in plastic. SAA is currently employing the company Bagport South Africa in a multi-million rand three month trial to wrap all the luggage.
The new charge for the service was never announced and is hidden within the cost of the ticket, leading to a raise in ticket fares.
