A peck on the cheek is all it took to nab a French jewel thief. DNA collected from when he kissed his hostage good-bye was enough to trace him down.
After holding a 56-year-old jewelry store employee hostage at her home in Paris, the assailant kissed her on the cheek in an effort to “ease her trauma,” which is weird, because the guy had just poured petrol over her, and was threatening to light it if she didn’t give up the codes for the safes and security alarms. After the codes were extracted, accomplices robbed the store, at which point she was released with a parting kiss.
Police were able to collect enough DNA from the kiss to trace down the thief a few months later. He was found already imprisoned for involvement in other thefts.
