For those of you who can’t be bothered to watch Obama’s 2014 State of The Union address (above), here are the key points:
1). America is growing, but only for a few.
Obama believes that growth for the one percentile has never been better, but that success isn’t trickling down to the middle class. The focus of his second term is about getting the middle-class moving up. The president also promised to take executive action when and where he could, instead of constantly trying to push legislature around a quarrelsome Congress that takes forever to hash things out.
2). To hell with Congress.
The president stated that regardless of the current minimum wage, mayors, governors, and business owners should be encouraged to give people a pay hike. In the interim the president stated that he will unilaterally raise the minimum wage for new federal contracts but stated:
You don’t have to wait for Congress to act; Americans will support you if you take this on.
3). Obamacare is here to stay.
Obama told Republicans if they have a better idea to replace the Affordable Care Act, great, but otherwise, this law will stay on the books.
We all owe it to the American people to say what we are for… not against.
