For Prince Charles, the long wait to become King is nearly over, as a quiet, subtle coup takes places within Buckingham Palace.
From this week onwards, Prince Charles is to take on more and more of the formal roles that are traditionally reserved for the monarch, in a situation which may lead to a new regency.
So we may see old big ears at the opening of parliament, instead of the Queen.
The Queen’s private press office will also slowly shut down, while her press operations are to be merged with those of Prince Charles and Camilla, directed by one of Prince Charles’s personnel.
The Queen, who must be jolly tired of all this now, will also make one last overseas visit to France to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the first world war.
Long live the King!
