The brainchild of digital product developer and entrepreneur, Graham Bradford, 7days.co.za launched on 1 April 2013. A lot of people rightfully asked if they were being April fooled when the site first launched, and for good reason. 7 days consistently offers deals of between R50,000 and R100,000 off some of the best cars on South African showroom floors.
The web-based space showcases the best car deals and savings on new and ex-demo cars across all the brands, across 75 dealerships across the country.
Bradford has grown his staff compliment from a founding group of four employees to a total of 15 across the Western Cape, Gauteng and KZN in the space of 10 months.
Five years ago you could buy a car online, but if you wanted a bargain, you’d have to pay a visit to the showroom floor and face down with an actual real life car salesman. Terrifying.
7days is yet another local example of how shrewdly deployed software is beginning to eat the lunch of traditionally working class industries. Uber has changed the way we catch a cab, Stor Age is revolutionising personal storage management, and 7days is changing the way we find and buy a car – and how much we pay for it.
And all of those businesses have one thing in common that so many start ups before them don’t – they’re commercially viable, and sustainable, for everyone involved.
Here’s to more digitising of our world in 2014.
