One day after reports emerged that Michael Schumacher might never wake up from his medically-induced coma, a brain surgeon has warned that should Schumacher survive his injuries, his life will be irrevocably changed.
Dr Richard Greenwood, a brain injuries specialist at the University College London Hospital said:
If Schumacher survives, he will not be Schumacher. He will be [Joe] Bloggs. His rehabilitation will only be effective if he comes to terms with being Bloggs. That is a very, very hard process to take people through. They need to come to terms with their limitations — the fact they have changed.
Doctors at the Grenoble University Hospital where Schumacher is being treated have indicated that the seven-time F1 world champion remains in a critical but stable condition.
