This is a bold move from HBO. They’ve uploaded the first two episodes of ‘Girls’ season three on YouTube – where you can watch them right now, for free.
Because of the series’ predominantly youthful fan base, the marketing guys had to try and reach them on their terms, in the most effective way possible.
“For us, this is an increasingly challenging demographic to reach with traditional means” said Sabrina Caluori, HBO’s vice-president of social media and marketing.
BUT – there’s a problem. We South Africans aren’t allowed to access the video.
BUT – there’s a solution. You can change your IP address to trick YouTube into thinking you’re in America.
Download HotSpotShield, it’s one of the best free VPN services out there. It will allow you to alter your IP address in such a way as to open previously geo-blocked content, like the ‘Girls’ episodes we’re talking about right here.
