It’s not really a hard sell, is it? But now that Cape Town has been voted the number one city to visit in 2014 by The New Yorker, we thought we’d press the advantage home with this collection of shots, illustrating why you shouldn’t be living anywhere else in the world.
1) Lion’s Head full moon hike
Walk up Lion’s Head at night and be rewarded with Cape Town lighting up like a christmas tree.
2) A fully-packed Green Point Stadium
Perched on the edge of the Atlantic ocean, there’s nothing quite like being inside a fully-packed Green Point Stadium.
3) The Table Mountain Cable Car
Zipping through the air at a speedy 10 metres per second, the Table Mountain cable car rotates as it climbs, providing the ultimate views of the Mother city.
4) Long Street by night
Let’s be honest, the Cape Town CBD is the only CBD in South Africa that is hospitable to both locals and tourists. Not only hospitable, but PUMPING, hey buggah.
5) Sea fog rolling into the city
When it gets foggy in town, the best thing to do is head over to Signal Hill, and pretend to be Batman as you stare at the tips of the skyscrapers poking through the low cloud.
6) Kloof Street
Buzzing with that bohemian craft-beer-and-hummus type vibe, Kloof street is lined with row upon row of charming cafes, chic restaurants and lively bars.
7) Clifton Beach on a summer’s day weekend
Crystal waters, beautiful people and paragliders jumping off nearby Lion’s Head. Beach bats, anyone?
8) University of Cape Town
Even if you don’t actually study there (many UCT students don’t), then the UCT campus is still an amazing sight. It also leads to the Rhodes Memorial, as well as loads of hiking routes.
9) Flowers on the West Coast
Admittedly this attraction is seasonal but when August does eventually arrive the beautiful display of flowers that comes with it is a must-see natural masterpiece.
10) Kirstenbosch National Gardens
Nestled on the slopes of Devil’s Peak, Kirstenbosch is a veritable garden of eden.
