As a last parting gift, Mandela has brought the world’s attention to Cape Town – this time for a good reason.
His death has inspired thousands of people the world over to make a sort of pilgrimage to South Africa – and this is backed up by The New York Times placing Cape Town as the number one city to visit in 2014.
Of course, being the Design Capital of 2014 helps, but we get the feeling that it’s the Madiba magic that is bringing more and more foreigners to our shores.
The New York Times wrote:
Cape Town’s importance to Mandela, who made his first address there as a free man, will doubtless draw many visitors in the wake of his death.
Cape Town is again reinventing itself, and the world is invited to its renaissance.
The runners up were: Christchurch, New Zealand; North Coast, California; Albanian Coast, Albania.
