This weekend in Mpumalanga, a woman took a bath in a pothole on the R63 between Machadodorp and Mashishing. This got a lot of tongues wagging.
Rosie Morrison, a volunteer teacher, teamed up with friend and Guest Farm owner Alison Botha to take some provocative pics of Morrison taking a dip in the oversized pothole.
The pair posted the photos on Facebook and encouraged friends to spread the message via social media. Botha made this statement:
This specific road, the R36 between Machadodorp and Mashishing, has been unusable for years now and it’s mainly because there are 40-ton trucks that make use of the road every day due to a lack of railway structure. It is the responsibility of government to fix this road.
The Mpumalanga transport department blames the potholes on trucks, and has promised to do something about it. Department spokesperson Dumisani Malamule said:
As we are approaching the end of the current financial year, all efforts are being made to ensure that rehabilitation of the road is done in the 2014/15 financial year. The MEC will pronounce the plans for the provincial road network during the 2014/15 policy and budget speech.
Right. Anyway, here’s that picture.
