Asked to comment on the remarks, presidential spokesperson, Mac Maharaj refrred journalists to the ANC. ANC spokesperson, Jackson Mthembu said:
I’m not the one who was making the speech. Ask him. It is unfair to us for you to ask us to decode someone else’s speech.

Political analyst and relative of musical comedians, Steven Friedman said:
The president knows the ANC won’t get a two-thirds majority. It is simply a way of saying to the party’s constituency: ‘Look, we tried to change things but we couldn’t because you didn’t give us a two-thirds majority’.
But you can all chill the heck out. The current political climate suggests that the ANC won’t get a two thirds majority – in fact, they’ll be very lucky to get over 60% of the vote.
