This isn’t like any of those self-parking mechanisms that are already installed in some new cars – oh no – this is different.
A company called Valeo saw the shortcomings of existing self-parking technology, and sought to improve it. They have been working relentlessly to embed cars with sensors, cameras and a laser scanner that let the cars park themselves.
To be clear, this isn’t parking-assist, this is self-parking.
That means you can drive to a mall, stop the car near your most convenient entrance, get out and shop while your car finds itself a space in which to park.
And while you’re busy paying for whatever hideously expensive thing you bought, you can ask your car to come pick you up where it dropped you off. You don’t even need venture into the dark recesses of the cavernous underground parking lot.
