England’s worst spate of storms in over 20 years is continuing to batter coastlines and drown villages – but they’re also doing damage to historic landmarks.
A rock formation, similar to our very own ‘Hole in the Wall’ in the Eastern Cape, was totally destroyed after it was pelted relentlessly with 50 foot waves.
In the Welsh town of Aberystwyth, large swathes of the historic Victorian promenade were torn up completely. Locals reported that it was as if “a bomb had hit” the seafront.
The Met Office has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for wind gusts of up to 112 km/h on the west and south-west coast of Britain today. It is also reported that heavy showers, some of them combined with hail and thunder, will continue to affect parts of southern and south-eastern England today and tomorrow.
