Snapchat CEO, Evan Speigel, isn’t doing himself any favours of late. He still hasn’t apologised for the security breach that affected 4,6 million Snapchat users, and now he’s involved in a row with Forbes.
The 23 year-old entrepreneur took to Twitter on Monday to lash out at Forbes journalists, who he claimed had misreported details in a recent Forbes cover story about Snapchat.
The original story covered an email exchange between Spiegel and Mark Zuckerberg. According to the story, Zuckerberg emailed Spiegel in 2012 asking to meet up and discuss Snapchat.
The article claims that the response from Spiegel was: “I’m happy to meet … if you come to me.”
Well, that’s what Spiegel told Forbes.
After a reporter called him arrogant on Twitter, Spiegel responded by tweeting a full transcript of his and Zuckerberg’s original correspondence. Oddly, the emails he released confirmed that he, in fact, did not set the terms for the meeting between him and the Facebook CEO.
Instead, Zuckerberg simply had plans to be in Los Angeles a few weeks later, and the meeting was arranged to be during his trip.
But in the interview with Forbes journalist J.J. Colao, he talked a big game.
So Mark sends an email to my personal email. Like, how would he know that right? And it’s like, “Hey we’re interested in what you’re doing. Would love to meet you or whatever.”
And we’re like, “You know we’re working in LA, you know, thank you. You know, let us know if you come to LA.”
And so he at that time was like working with Frank Gehry on the new office. And so he was in LA and was like, “Hey I’m in LA. Why don’t you meet me at this address?”
