A couple of diligent ninth grade high school students, have made a small but important revelation that has garnered international interest among the geeks in the scientific community. Initially interested by the fact that they couldn’t sleep well when they had their cell phones nearby, but unable to access equipment to study human brainwaves, five girls from Hjallerup School in Denmark launched an investigation on the growth of plants near to wi-fi routers.
The students placed six trays of garden cress seeds next to wi-fi routers that emitted roughly the same microwave radiation as a mobile phone. They then placed six more trays of seeds in a separate room without routers. The girls controlled both environments for room temperature, sunlight and water. After 12 days, they found the garden cress seeds in the router-less room had exploded into bushy greenery, while the seeds next to the wi-fi routers were… well see for yourself:
For obvious reasons their endeavours cannot be considered a peer-reviewed study as they are after all ninth grade students. However two scientists from different institutes in Sweden and London respectively, have both expressed interest in the experiment and may repeat it in a professional lab environment.
The only question I have is, what are our ninth grade students doing?
All I remember doing back then was playing Call Of Duty in class.
